Gone Gliding: Ice Skating in Downtown

You’ve been waiting all year to glide gracefully (or maybe stumble) across the ice, and the time is finally here. The winter weather welcomes two of our favorite skating scenes back to the city.

BOSTON WINTER
The spectacular 11,000-square-foot skating path returns to Boston Winter at City Hall Plaza and is open through February. The European-inspired holiday shopping market provides an enchanting backdrop as holiday music fills the air and visitors sip on hot cocoa and other seasonal libations.

BOSTON FROG POND
Lace up your skates with family and friends and practice your triple axel all winter long at the historic Boston Common Frog Pond. Or ring in the New Year at the Frog Pond with a free figure skating ice show featuring national and international competitive figure skaters.

Beacon Hill Holiday Stroll

Beacon Hill becomes a little more charming on Thursday, December 7, when Charles Street closes for the annual Holiday Stroll. Listen for Victorian Carolers and a strolling brass quintet, take an old-fashioned horse and buggy ride, or wander in-and-out of storefronts adorned with festive décor. You might even catch a glimpse of the big man in red before he lights the tree at the corner of Charles and Mount Vernon Streets at 7 p.m.

Traditions Old & New: Holiday Lunches at Yvonne’s

Culinary Director Tom Berry and Executive Chef Juan Pedrosa of Yvonne’s have teamed up to honor a tradition that’s over 135-years-old. The restaurant will be hosting a series of reservation-only holiday lunches featuring decadent dishes inspired by the former Locke-Ober menu. Diners can expect modern takes on lobster a la Stroganoff, “turf & turf” Rossini, and more. There will also be plenty of wine to go around, and Beverage Director Nicole Lebedevitch is making spirits even brighter with an all-new Martini Lounge menu created just for the event.
