I’m always looking for new ways to look and feel my best, especially when the calendar flips to a new year. Last year, I jumped into a silky sling and tried my luck at aerial yoga. Defying gravity wasn’t for me. The year before that, I purchased a fitness app on my iPhone only to tuck it away in a folder a few weeks later. Despite good intentions, these fads often flare and fizzle. The trick to getting fit and staying fit is finding something tried-and-true that you love to do.

So, what kind of trendy workouts can we look forward to in 2018?

Every year, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) questions thousands of fitness professionals to create a worldwide survey identifying top fitness trends over fads – and they’re all available right downstairs at FLX Wellness. Here are the top five from this year’s list:

#1 HIGH-INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING (HIIT)

Short bursts of high-intensity exercise followed by a short period of rest or recovery. Try it solo on the cardiovascular Technogym equipment. Or, sweat it out in a Total Body Conditioning class, which combines cardio, strength training, and core conditioning for a full body workout in less than one hour.

#2 GROUP TRAINING

Sweat together, stay together! With everything from upbeat cycling to meditation and yoga flow, FLX Wellness is constantly refreshing the group class schedule to meet your health and wellness needs. Motivate your neighbors or challenge a friend to a friendly competition in a small group setting.

#3 WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY

Even if you don’t have a Fitbit or Apple Watch, the MTB FLX app can log your workouts and keep track of your daily progress both inside and outside of the Fitness Center.

#4 BODY WEIGHT TRAINING

Although body weight training requires minimal equipment, it can be so much more than push-ups and pull-ups. FLX classes like barre and Pilates focus on toning and sculpting your body through a fusion of targeted body movements that build strength and increase flexibility.

#5 STRENGTH TRAINING

If muscle mass is what you’re after this year, talk to a FLX Wellness Xpert about private wellness training. Share your goals, create a plan, and receive hands-on training that will get you the results without risking any injuries.
