I’m never more ambitious than the night before I plan to work out. I set my alarm for 6 a.m. and fall asleep with the best intentions. But the minute my alarm starts chirping in the morning, all my big plans go out the window. Instead, I curl deeper under the covers convincing myself that tomorrow will be a better day. Yes, tomorrow will be the day.
But now that it’s officially October, and the gluttonous holiday season is right around the corner, I’m running out of excuses. I’ve already traded in my breakfast roast for a seasonal pumpkin spice latte and my daily apple tastes so much better when it’s baked in a fresh pie. But since I don’t want to spend my winter hiding under chunky sweaters, it’s time for me to spice up more than just my morning cup of joe. Fortunately, I have access to a team of dedicated and professionally-trained Xperts that can help design a customized routine that’s just right for me. But since I’ve taken a few months off, I need to come up with a plan that I can stick to, and here’s what I’m going to do:
If you haven’t already, I highly recommend reaching out to Matt to help you navigate your options. I’ve always liked trying different classes – there’s something about group fitness that motivates me to go the extra mile (let’s call it friendly competition!). According to Matt, they’re constantly revamping their classes to keep things fresh and interesting. He suggested I try something that’s different from my usual spinning and yoga classes. After all, variety is the spice of life.

After my meeting with Matt, I did a little bit of homework and read through several options on the FLX class calendar. I stumbled upon a new, full-body, high-intensity interval training (HIIT) class with Mark Comstock, one of the newest Xpert trainers. This class starts at 9 a.m., giving me plenty of time to snooze before lacing up my sneakers!
I made it to the Fitness Center early and introduced myself to Mark as a newbie to HIIT. The class combines short bursts of high-intensity cardio and strength training followed by quick recovery periods. Mark was very attentive to the entire class, guiding and correcting our form every step of the way and motivating us to push past our comfort zones and really feel the burn. We worked the entire body in just 55 minutes and I left feeling re-energized and ready to take on the rest of the day…after a shower, of course.
If group classes aren’t for you, FLX has much more to offer. From personal training and fitness assessments to nutrition services and more, this team is always working to uncover the best new trends that will integrate health and fitness seamlessly into your lifestyle.
