Between Thanksgiving feasts and holiday cookies and cocktails, it can be tempting to kick back and put your fitness routine on hold until 2018. But this year, don’t count on a resolution to balance the scale. There are 38 days between Thanksgiving and the New Year, and you can make the most of them with the help of the Xperts. In fact, the HERE team recently chatted with FLX Wellness Director AnneAlise Bonistalli for some motivational tips and tricks – here’s her advice on making fitness part of your seasonal celebrations:
Commit to something! Between work and holiday gatherings, your exercise routine often gets pushed to the wayside. However, signing up for a FLX group class or meeting with an Xpert trainer ensures you continue to exercise. There are 38 days between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, which is the perfect amount of time to master that downward-facing dog pose in yoga class or any other fitness goals you might have.
While snuggling under the covers after a big, indulgent meal sounds amazing, it’s unfortunately not going to help your waistline. Many people call November and December a wash towards their fitness goals because they overindulge in sweets and rich foods. I love sweet treats and a spiked egg nog just as much as the next person; however, your workouts can still continue and progress after a big meal or a few too many cookies at a holiday party.
Use your friends and family to your advantage. When it’s dark and you don’t want to wake up to go to the gym, it helps to have someone by your side. You’ll pick each other up when you need that extra push. Try meeting friends down at the gym for one of our many FLX classes or sign up for duet training with your significant other – a tandem workout is a wonderful way to stay motivated for both you and your partner!
If you have plans to go to a holiday party, don’t fast all day just to eat a huge meal. Instead, eat balanced meals throughout the day to avoid overindulging all in one sitting. Even more important, make sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water through the colder months.
Now is the time to set a new goal before the year is over – no need to wait until 2018 to improve your health and well-being. Whether your goal is to lose weight, build strength, or learn how to swim, the best time to start is now. Plus, you can lose weight AND gain savings with 20 percent off any FLX Wellness service through the end of November.
