A Glowing Service
Airbrush Tanning at
FLX Salon & Spa
January 2018 _____
Sun might be bad for your skin, but a tan is good for your spirits. New to FLX Salon & Spa, residents can achieve a faux glow with personalized airbrush tanning services right downstairs in the Spa Treatment Room. Even if you don’t have plans to escape the cold this winter, you’ll look and feel as if you just returned from a month of sailing through the Mediterranean – no harmful UV rays required.
However, if you’ve never had a spray tan, you likely have a few questions: Will I look orange and streaky? Do I have to get down to my skivvies in front of a stranger? We talked to airbrush Xpert Natalie Santaniello and here’s what to expect before, during, and after your appointment.

Natalie:
It’s easy! Wear loose fitting clothing and flip flops and don’t wear any deodorant, moisturizers, or makeup. Also, it’s best to shave and exfoliate the day before (I recommend waiting at least 24 hours before or after to shave!).
Once you arrive, we'll discuss your skin type and what option best suits you. Then, you’ll step into a little pop-up booth for the actual airbrushing. If you don’t feel comfortable removing all your clothing, we have disposable undergarments and goggles for you to use. You can also wear a bathing suit… the product comes out in the wash. The appointment is about 30 minutes total, and the actual spray time is less than four minutes. Your color will develop and get deeper within a day.
Absolutely not! I use a high-quality DHA (dihydroxyacetone) product. It’s an FDA-approved colorless chemical that interacts with dead skin cells to produce a tan color. It’s totally safe and your skin won’t absorb it. I also use a pH balancing spray to eliminate any chance of orange and enhance the tan. The end result is always a beautiful, healthy glow.
It’s fine to gently exfoliate darker areas with a sponge or buffer after you rinse with warm water. Lemon can also help lighten areas that may be a little darker.
Keep your skin hydrated! A tan extender and moisturizer will help maintain that perfect tan for five to seven days.
